Eagles play Mexico with controversial jersey

African champions, the Super Eagles will be filing out tonight in their new but controversial jerseys against their Mexican counterparts in an international friendly match in Atlanta, USA.

The national team jerseys that were unveiled in Abuja last week came under scrutiny Monday when the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Godfrey Gaiya said the dominant colour which was supposed to be green was something else.

"For me the Green is not our national colour, I would have preferred the green that we have in our national flag," Gaiya said, vowing to ensure those behind the designing of the jerseys have some explaining to make.

But before the chairman's objection the Nigeria Football Federation had since set aside the Nigeria versus Mexico friendly for the first time the Eagles will wear the new jersey.

Apart from Gaiya, football fans across the country have also condemned the new jerseys, saying they were not a true reflection of Nigerian colours
